method acting

Terms from Artificial Intelligence: humans at the heart of algorithms

The glossary is being gradually proof checked, but currently has many typos and misspellings.

In method acting the actor tries to feel the feelings and 'get inside' the character in the drama. This might involve thinking of similar things that happened in one's own life or immersing oneself in the character. Other actors instead study the character in detail, but do not try to 'feel' like the character, instead they try to produce the behaviour the character would have from mannerisms to facial expressions. This latter kind of human emulation is more tractable for AI, it would need to understand human emotions, but not feel them itself..
